I received a free copy of this book from Publisher for an honest review.
This does not affect in any way my opinion of the book nor the content of my review.

four-stars

As a second daughter, Grace Andreas never had to worry about the intrigues of the Elder Races. But when her sister, Petra, and her husband are both killed, Grace inherits the Power and responsibilities of the Oracle of Louisville, as well as her sister’s two young children—neither of which she is prepared for. Yet, she is not alone.
Khalil, Demonkind and Djinn Prince of House Marid—driven by his genuine caring for the children—has decided to make himself a part of the household, both as their guardian and as an exasperating counterpoint to Grace’s impudence towards the Elder Races.
But when an attempt is made on Grace’s life, she realises that Khalil is the only one who can protect her—and offer her more than any mortal man . . .

It’s been a while since I read an instalment in the Elder Races series, but thanks to the author’s recap in this one everything came back to mind, and it was like I never left those characters. I also remembered why I was looking forward to reading this book . . . Khalil, Khalil, you are quite the Djinn! Let’s face it, it’s not every day you get to read a story with a djinn in it and, boy, here Thea Harrison delivers a very great one. The banter between Khalil and Grace is priceless and surely gets the reader entertained, but there’s more than that. Their personal backgrounds are very interesting, the more you read the more you discover things that are touching at times, and soon you realise the event that got them together was just the first of the engaging ones yet to come.

I honestly had a great time with this book, perhaps the events towards the end went a bit too fast, but they didn’t put me down in the latest and the end didn’t disappoint. In fact—as per usual with the instalments in this series—my curiosity has been piqued and I need to know what is going to happen next, especially since it seems to focus its attention on a couple I really enjoy!
