four-stars

A man controlled by his desires . . .
Infamous for his wild, sensual needs, Lazarus Huntington, Lord Caire, is searching for a savage killer in St Giles, London's most notorious slum. Widowed Temperance Dews knows the area like the back of her hand—she's spent a lifetime caring for its inhabitants at the foundling home her family established. Now that home is at risk . . .
A woman haunted by her past . . .
Caire makes a simple offer—in return for Temperance's help navigating the perilous alleys of St Giles, he will introduce her to London's high society so that she can find a benefactor for the home. But Temperance may not be the innocent she seems, and what begins as cold calculation soon falls prey to a passion that neither can control—one that may well destroy them both.
A bargain neither could refuse.

When I was given the chance to read book three and four in the Maiden Lane series I took it without thinking twice. I usually don’t like to start a series from the middle because it’s kinda risky, you could not follow the story properly and you might not be into characters you don’t know anything about. However, Elizabeth Hoyt is a fantastic writer who not only lets you easily follow every book, but makes you fall in love with her characters with just a few lines. Why am I telling you this if I’m reviewing the first instalment, you ask? Because it doesn’t matter which book you pick up first, in the end you’ll want to read them all, even if that means coming back to the beginning!

Wicked Intentions was an amazing first instalment full of mystery and . . . well, wicked intentions. A complex, tortured hero with the constant need to let passion control body and mind and make his darkest fantasies take form. Could you possibly resist to someone like that? But if you think Lord Caire is the only one to embrace and enjoy such a dark side, then think again. Speaking of dark, I loved how Hoyt used this element, and the psychological aspect around it was touching and well developed. If you haven’t started this series yet, don’t waste another precious moment!
