Life of a Blogger: Quirks

Life of a Blogger is a weekly feature hosted by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat.
Let’s talk about non-bookish topics, so we get to know each other on a more personal level.

This week’s topic: QUIRKS

I can sum up my peculiar behavioural habits in just one word: OCD.

Some may think for the most part it’s all about organizing shelves, displaying books, CDs and/or DVDs in a certain order and keep them that way or the next thing you know you’ll freak out. I’m afraid it’s far more than that. If you really have such a complexion, your organization will go crazy with everything and you’ll become a tiny bit of a perfectionist.

Have you ever used a correction pen? Sure you have, who hasn’t? Including me, of course, and boy if it pains me a damn hell of a lot! I get this is not something you can do especially when you’re at school or at work, but I’d rather rip off the paper and start writing all over again. And this leads to another kind of problem: insecurity. Would you like me to count the times I check and re-check before sending or publishing something? Yeah, let’s just leave it . . .

I won’t bother you with a list of things I have to do a certain way—which would be really long and you could end up snoring—but I’ll tell you that I keep all my things in a way that, when I enter in a room, I can tell if something has been moved. Does that make me freak out? Besides the internal yelling, you mean? No, but you can be sure I’ll go for what has been moved and I will re-arrange it because, yes, it needs to stay that way. Don’t worry, I may look the other way, but I never snap at the guilty ones.

Everyone who knows me will tell you I’m good and kind and that I certainly don’t let the obsession I have/feel ruin any kind of relationship or put the pressure on others. I learnt how to keep it at bay outside from home and family, but my head constantly runs its train of compulsive thoughts 24/7 . . . Still, I live with it.

  1. I think you're very courageous to share with us, Sivlia! And it must be hard to make sure you rein it in while you're out, too. *hugs*

Ack, that quote at the end is funny! I think a lot of us have some sort of OCD tendency. Thanks for sharing your quirks, it takes courage!

  3. Haha, great post! I think there are a lot of different forms of OCD. My dad is very similar to you, and everything in the house has to be from the same brand if they are the same type of object. Even all our hair tools-they have to be the same brand. It drives my mother crazy. I have more of a numbers OCD where I HAVE to have an even number of comments on a post and only post on even days. Otherwise I freak out and it almost makes me itch.

  4. I love the poster. Yeah I am a re-check everything and have some OCD tendencies like the way my glasses go i the cabinet, and I cannot eat or drink out of plastic..yeah just no.

  5. I confess I don't have OCD, the only thing I do a lot is touching my hair, I'm like always doing that, it's terrible but well it's only about me so it's ok.

  6. Agh, so glad I'm a little bit over my OCD tendencies. I used to freak out whenever I didn't have my bag ready for school for the next day. I would check and double check, sometimes even wake up in the middle of the night to check again. Oh, don't let me get started with my personal higiene, I would carry around about 5 hand sanitizers with me (I'm down to only one) 😉 Yay for us to getting better!

  7. Aww, that's very sweet of you to say, thanks Lexxie! xo Yes, it is, but I understand we're all different and that my compulsions/obsessions are mine and shouldn't impact others. That wouldn't be fair. *hugs*

  8. Haha, you're dad is great, Alice! I may not have a problem with posts, but I do prefer an even number of comments and, well, I certainly go wild with even numbers for lots of things… It's not really great when you get that 'itchy feeling', is it? 🙁

Haha, I love that graphic. I totally agree, I can definitely get a bit OCD when it comes to organizing things!

  10. "I'll tell you that I keep all my things in a way that, when I enter a room, I can tell if something ahs been moved."
I'm the same way! I like my stuff to be arranged in a particular order (or in some cases, disorder), and when something is moved or missing I notice. And it pisses me off!
