four-stars

Risa has come under the eagle-eyed scrutiny of the vampire council—some of whom consider her a monster who should be destroyed. But then they decide to offer her a secret, bloody bargain: to save her own life she must help them defeat Hunter, the lethal head of the council.

It’s been almost two years since I read a Dark Angels novel and yet, it was like I never really left Risa. Indeed, I surprised myself with the knowledge I still had of the complex, fascinating world Keri Arthur has created, but I also had to scold myself for wasting precious time!

This book is proof of why urban fantasy is such a powerful genre, and why I’ve always been terribly fascinated by it. Darkness Splintered is an action-packed novel rich of suspense, twists and turns everywhere and odd, scary creatures ready to make your nightmares even worse. Of course, there’s romance as well, and the fun, flirting lines are more than enjoyable. But there’s also drama—which should never be underestimated in this kind of reads—and, although I would have never thought getting emotional over a certain character possible, it was a bit of an agony . . . And pure agony would be if I had to wait for the final instalment, but I got that already so all is good. Or so I keep telling myself before the last, apocalyptic encounter with Hunter . . .

Readers who have reached this instalment know where the impatience comes from, and those who haven’t started the series yet should join the adventurous journey right away!

  1. I guess I should start this series, Silvia? I love good UF stories, and if there are angels that are well done and slightly scary, I'm even happier;) Also it's always a treat to start a series when there are already several instalments out – I can stay in that specific universe over the span of a few books.
    Have a great week!!

  2. Keri Arthur writes some powerful and unforgettable UF, Lexxie. This is a spin-off of Riley Jenson Guardian series, which you should read first because you get the insights of the whole story and each character, but also because it's A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! Seriously, it's been years since I read the series and I still can remember things clearly. That's how good Arthur's world is. I strongly suggest you to grab both series (they're finished) whenever you get the chance, and enjoy tremendously the glorious journey, my friend!
Have a great week yourself 🙂

  3. You got me at the review, but the fact that the series it's spin-off'ed from is amazing is another good point in its favor, Silvia.

I recently read a book from a series that I'm still kicking myself for not having read sooner. 🙂 I'm thrilled that Arthur sucked you right back into her world and that it was so well-developed, you felt you hadn't left. 🙂 And that she wrung so much out of you with this installment is wonderful. That's the mark of a great author. I hope you enjoy the finale just as much! You know I've read this author (at least I think I've told you before that I love Riley Jensen) but I've yet to pick up this series. I suppose I'll have to work on that. 😉

  5. You remember it correctly and it's right because I know how much you loved Riley that I'm 'pushing' you to read about Risa, too! And if you need any more reasons, know that the characters you loved in the previous series are in this one as well, ready to rock your world once more! 😉
