A prequel about the sacrifices we make for love . . .
I sneak out of my room every night. My father's guards don't see me.
No one sees me, except him.
He's the son of a foot soldier. My father is his boss. The boss. I shouldn't even know Giovanni. And I definitely shouldn't kiss him. Our relationship is doomed to fail, but that won't stop me from being with him.
Not every girl wants to be a princess. I just want to be free.

During the holidays I saw this prequel was free on iBooks and, knowing all too well what Skye Warren is capable of with her writing, I certainly didn’t pass the chance to try another of her series. Of course, now that I read this intense beginning, I just have to read the rest!

Although just a few pages long, it grabs your attention and captivates you from the moment you start it. I honestly wasn’t expecting to read about a fifteen-year-old Clara, but I surely loved reading about the orders expectations imposed by her family and her secret hopes/dreams that the reality she lives in surely won’t ever allow to become true. Can Giovanni help? Or things are just going to be tougher for both of them? It’s all dark, exciting and also touching, a prequel you should definitely try if you’re into this genre!
