Jason is a werewolf. He’s one of my best friends and sometimes a lover. And right now he needs me, Anita Blake—not to be a vampire hunter, or a federal marshall, or a necromancer, but because his father is dying. I can help make him look like an everybody guy, help him say goodbye to the abusive father he’s never loved. How hard can it be?
Really, by now, you’d think I’d know better. Because this is the weekend that Marmee Noir, ancient mother of all vampires, picks to make her move. I’ve got something she wants—and now she’s going to take it.

I loved Jason since the very beginning, so you can imagine how much I wanted to read this book knowing it was focused on him. And now that I’ve finished it I’d almost need to re-read it!

At first, I thought Blood Noir was similar to Micah, but I have to say that it was because most of the story takes place in a hotel and that’s it. I actually found this book more exciting, very charming, sweet and quite emotional, especially in the last chapters . . . There’s mystery, new characters, revelations and we learn a lot more about both Jason and Anita—her relationship with her family, how she feels about them and how she grew up. I think the relationship between Jason and Anita is really special. It’s a very strong friendship, of course, and a beautiful one, but there’s more and it’s something you can’t explain with a simple word. That’s why they can’t find a way to describe it for themselves.

I know there are many people who hate the change in this series because it’s more focused on sex, but I personally can’t find this like a bad thing here. Laurell K. Hamilton has such great writing skills and every time you read about a scene like that you find something new, different and yourself completely absorbed in it. God help me, there’s not a single time I don’t find one of her men so damn attractive!

[…] and God help me, there's not a single time I don't find one of her men so damn attractive!

Boy, do I agree with you or what! Okay, I always find all of her men so darn attractive. 😉 Lol!

Great review! Aw, I just wanna get back to it even more now! I agree with you about not finding the change in the book bad. I quite like it! Sure the ardeur can go nuts at times, but it's all about finding a balance and for Anita to learn that. Loved everything you just described! Again: great review and I'm glad you liked it as much as you did!

  2. Thanks, Bex!
I'm very happy you agree with me, especially about the ardeur. I think it's a fascinating concept so well developed in the books and I would be disappointed if it vanished just like that… I mean, many of her relationships formed because of that, now can somebody really say that they would have preferred not to read about even one of them?… I don't think so! 😉

I'm happy someone agrees with me too! It's very fascinating and it definitely has a big part in the plot. If she could just control it and not forget to eat as often as she does, I'd be happy! It would just be simpler for them all. 😉

And I agree, I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. It's how it went and how it is. And I think she needed them all to develop herself too. I guess it's just since she has so many main men, people don't find it okay. It's too far from what should be a HEA. But I think, as long as they're happy and it works, it can sure be their HEA!

  4. Totally, TOTALLY agree!! And honestly? I think one of the best, particular things of this great series is about all the main men she has around. She couldn't be the happy Anita she is (because she IS happy in this way), the awesome character ever, without them. And truth is that we couldn't be as happy as we are because we feel something for all of them (I dare everyone to say the opposite) the way they are, thanks to the role they play. *and they're awesome in many ways, not only for the ardeur!* So, I'd say: "as long as you're happy Anita, it's ok!" 😉

LOL, me too! I love the men! I get people want some balance with the crimes, magic and men and all, but I sooo do not get those who want the men gone. I adore them all (well, except for Richard. He's just disappointed me way to much!)

And I agree, she is happy now and she deserves that. I love to see her and the men happy! So I'm glad the ardeur found like Nathaniel and Micah, for her. Now if she'd just learn to feed when necessary, it'll be just great!

  6. What I don't get is: balance is ok, but with all the men gone, what do you get?… Why don't read a crime book then?

As for Richard… You will be pleased to know that I can't stand him, too! LOL I liked him very much at the beginning but now most of times when he appears I already know what I'm going to read and I'm soooo tired to hear that… It's a shame because he could be a very awesome character! But maybe it's better in this way, at least I don't have to fight with myself to choose between him and our top 4! 😛

Agree, she should learn… But I'm totally cool with all the scenes I read about! 😉

Yeah, exactly. But it won't be balance removing the men in anyway either, because she needs them to balance out herself… If that makes any sense. They're just good for her.

LOL, see! Anita soulmates, hahah. Yeah, I liked him too, but he's just hurting both Anita and himself all the time now. He has to learn to accept himself! And accept that he cannot have his dream, especially not with Anita. He could definitely be a great character! But he has to many issues with the "monsters"… Haha, and yeah! We already have four to focus on, so it's all good. 😉 AND neither of them wanna change Anita to be what they want!

Yeah, I don't mind the scenes either! But when it goes crazy, neither of them are too happy about it, lol. Plus, when she doesn't feed Nathaniel is one of the ones on the receiving end of the consequence, and I so don't accept that. 😉 Lol!

  8. It makes perfect sense for me! 😉

And that is the reason I like those 4! Well, there are more reasons, of course, but it would be better to write a book for each one of them to make the right justice! ;P

Yeah, I agree even this time, Bex! And anyway we should probably write a message to Anita saying: "it's Nathaniel, watch out or the Anita soulmates are gonna make you feed right!" LOL 😉

  9. bex

Haha, I love that you get what I mean!

And definitely, there are way too many reasons to count on one hand, that's for sure!

LOL, we should! Although she'd probably need the feeding help anyway. 😉
