Riley Blackthorne is beginning to learn that there are worse things than death by demon. And love is just one of them . . .
Seventeen-year-old Riley has about had it up to here. After the devastating battle at the Tabernacle, trappers are dead and injured, her boyfriend Simon is gravely injured, and now her beloved late father’s been illegally poached from his grave by a very powerful necromancer. As if that’s not enough, there's Ori, one sizzling hot freelance demon hunter who’s made himself Riley’s unofficial body guard, and Beck, a super over-protective “friend” who acts more like a grouchy granddad. With all the hassles, Riley’s almost ready to leave Atlanta altogether.
But as Atlanta’s demon count increases, the Vatican finally sends its own Demon Hunters to take care of the city’s “little” problem, and pandemonium breaks loose. Only Riley knows that she might be the center of Hell’s attention: an extremely powerful Grade 5 demon is stalking her, and her luck can't last forever . . .

In the first book I found myself involved in the story more than I expected and I really loved it, but I honestly couldn’t imagine that with the second instalment I’d be even more in love . . . The whole story is fascinating, there are really interesting theories and the way the author writes all this is so natural that you believe they’re true. Then you’re so involved that you’re stuck in the world she created. Amazing!

There were some unexpected, very interesting changes in a couple of characters. I couldn’t stand Simon in the other book, I thought that was basically because I found him boring and too sweet, but now it could be that I simply felt what was coming . . . In fact, in this book Jana Oliver gave me the real reason for my hatred about this character and it’s a very big one! Forget the boring part, he’s totally annoying and I wanted to punch him in the face scene after scene! But the most unexpected change was in another character. I don’t know how this is possible, but I really liked Harper! Sounds crazy, I know, that’s why I’m still vigil about him—you can never say never with a character like this—but hey, I liked him here!

I thought from the beginning that Beck was the most amazing character of this series and I didn’t change my mind at all. I love him even more! I’m always ecstatic when there’s a scene with him, I can’t wait to read what he’s going to do or say, his dialogues are truly the best. Especially the ones with Riley, of course. Maybe this is because we can find more about his emotions every time he speaks with her, or because when those two verbally fight it’s the moment in which it would be great to see them together, or maybe it’s simply because he has the power to let you feel his sadness and frustration so much that you would just jump in the book and hug him! Anyway, my point is that it’s difficult not to be Team Beck all the time just like Team Jana Oliver!
