Life of a Blogger: Thanksgiving

Posted November 28, 2014 by Silvia in Life of a Blogger / 12 Comments

Life of a Blogger is a weekly feature hosted by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat.
Let’s talk about non-bookish topics, so we get to know each other on a more personal level.

This week’s topic: THANKSGIVING

I’m not an American citizen, so I don’t celebrate Thanksgiving. Hence, I don’t have any traditions to tell ๐Ÿ™ Still, I’ve always been really curious about it . . . So, let’s make this post a bit different from the others, shall we? If you’re American, you have just celebrated Thanksgiving and I would LOVE to hear from you! Feel free to share your day with me by commenting below and, of course, don’t forget to add any great food you stuffed yourselves with! Indeed, make me envious with all the good stuff ๐Ÿ˜‰

  1. I'm in the US ๐Ÿ™‚ My Thanksgiving is a little different than most these days. I wasn't able to go home and my mom wasn't able to come here (we both have sick herd babes) so this year I was on my own. I don't mind so much though. I did Thanksgiving with the herd and they all got special treats which they loved and then I went up and worked at our USO center at the airport. It's basically a civilian organization that provides support for our active military and their family. I work at our airport branch so we provide a lounge where they can come and eat for free during layovers or what not, catch a nap, watch some tv or use the computers. I tend to do the holiday shifts since I don't have family in town and figure others can then be with theirs. It was a good time. Had fun visiting with the other volunteers on shift and we had a number of people come through or stay the night.

I did a little cooking at home and made green bean casserole, crock pot mac & cheese and got a pecan pie which is my favorite ๐Ÿ™‚ When my mom and I eventually do meet up in the next few months we'll do a combo birthday-Fakesgiving-Fakesmas celebration and do all of the holidays we've missed at once. lol It's actually rather fun ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. I'm in the US, my boyfriend and I went to my Dad's house and ate a bunch of yummy food for lunch. We went to a second one for dinner. I'm still stuffed lol ๐Ÿ™‚

  3. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving either, but I find it to be a very nice tradition, showing that we are thankful for the people in our lives, spend time together around a special meal is always good ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. We celebrate and make a traditional feast with Turkey, mashed potatoes, yams, veggies, cranberry, stuffing and lots of pies. There is football and family time. We take a moment to be reflect on all the positive things and people in our lives.

  5. Aww, Anna, I'm sorry you missed the chance to celebrate with your mom, but I admit that the Birthday-Fakesgiving-Fakesmas combo sounds really promising! Hope you have a blast, you deserve it ๐Ÿ™‚

    P.S.: I LOVE pecan pie!!

  6. Bookworm Brandee

I was in Texas for Thanksgiving this year, to visit my family. We were at my parents' and one of my uncles, two of my cousins, and my grandma were there for Thanksgiving dinner. As you know, my grandma has cancer, so this year we were all very thankful for just getting to be together. It was my mom and I who cooked and we had turkey, cornbread stuffing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green bean casserole, salad, deviled eggs, bran rolls, and chocolate pies. And, of course, being from Texas, we watched the Dallas Cowboys…lose. *ha*
