Sometimes you find love in the most unexpected of places . . . This is not one of those times.
Everyone expects Billie Bridgerton to marry one of the Rokesby brothers. The two families have been neighbors for centuries, and as a child the tomboyish Billie ran wild with Edward and Andrew. Either one would make a perfect husband . . . someday.
Sometimes you fall in love with exactly the person you think you should . . . Or not.
There is only one Rokesby Billie absolutely cannot tolerate, and that is George. He may be the eldest and heir to the earldom, but he's arrogant, annoying, and she's absolutely certain he detests her. Which is perfectly convenient, as she can't stand the sight of him, either.
But sometimes fate has a wicked sense of humor . . .
Because when Billie and George are quite literally thrown together, a whole new sort of sparks begins to fly. And when these lifelong adversaries finally kiss, they just might discover that the one person they can't abide is the one person they can't live without . . .
I finally read a Julia Quinn book! I’m sure fellow bloggers suggesting her books to me over the years are all smiles right now, but I’m going to make them even happier by saying this: it was better than expected.
You might think the story follows some sort of simple formula—in a way it does—but I still found it a bit different from other historical romances I read so far. For instance, I was caught off guard by the opening, such an original and funny one, it definitely worked its charm because I was unable to put the book down and devoured it in a few hours! The characters work splendidly, Billie and George are a perfect balanced match, their mischievous banters are simply good, and the sparks between them . . . Let’s just say Quinn knows how to put swoon worthy moments—for the mother of all kisses, THAT one!—into words quite beautifully. And what’s more, we are introduced to two families I couldn’t help but love, so of course now I’m curious to discover what the author has planned for everyone.
With a witty, enrapturing writing, a lovely setting, a truly entertaining couple, and families who made me feel at home, I loved the read a lot and I know it won’t be my only book by Julia Quinn.
I heard great things about this author. Unfortunately I have not read any of her books.
