For years, James Cavanaugh has traveled the world as a horse whisperer, but even the millions he’s earned hasn’t healed the pain he hides behind his stoic exterior. Forced to tackle old demons at the ranch, James throws himself into work to avoid his true feelings. Until he meets a woman who shakes the foundations of his well-built walls . . .
Sheridan O’Neil’s quiet confidence has served her well, except when it comes to romance. Tired of rejection, she’s ready to swear off men. But after being rescued from a horse stampede by the most beautiful cowboy she’s ever met, her resolve wavers. Only, as Sheridan uncovers James’s belief that no woman is safe with him, she wonders if such a wounded man could ever give in to love, or if some hearts are too broken to be healed . . .

The Cavanaugh brothers keep digging into their sisters’ murder, but could their playing-detectives put them in some odd positions and give danger the chance to strike somewhere/someone?

Although I devoured this second instalment in The Cavanaugh Brothers series, I must say that I was let a bit down by the romance. I liked James a lot from the beginning and I could see why he was broken and also understand his difficulty to open up with people, but I think he was too hard on himself for something happened that he didn’t really have control over—and I don’t mean Cass’ murder. I certainly expected a different development between him and Sheridan, perhaps with a bit more of openness between the couple that, in my opinion, shouldn’t have seen the light just towards the end. Still, it must be said that their attraction is undeniable for the readers as much as for . . . well, everyone in the story, really.

Overall, I enjoyed the read and the mystery around Cass’ death definitely pushes me to keep up with the series. Of course, Cole’s book being next in line just makes things even more interesting!

Sorry it was a little different than what you thought… The idea is really intriguing though. I hope the next one is better.

I don't think I've heard of this series, Silvia (if I read your review of book #1, I can't remember) but I like the sound of it. The mystery, the danger…okay, you know I too would appreciate more romance but the story must be good since you're sticking with the series. I'm sorry this one let you down a bit. I hope the next one redeems itself. 🙂

  3. Yep, you commented on that review as well but, don't worry, I won't certainly hold that against you! After all, with all the books that come our way it can definitely happen to lose a few on the road *sigh*. The romance was there, I just couldn't be into it. As for the whole story, it certainly deserves two thumbs up!!
