My name is Tate. He doesn't call me that, though. He would never refer to me by a friendly nickname. No, he'll barely even speak to me. But he still won't leave me alone. We were best friends once. Then he turned on me and made it his mission to ruin my life. I've been humiliated, shut out, and gossiped about all through high school. His pranks and rumors got worse as time wore on, and I made myself sick trying to stay out of his way. I even went to France for a year, just to avoid him. But I'm done hiding from him now, and there's no way in hell I'll allow him to ruin another year. He might not have changed, but I have. It's time to fight back.
I kinda got addicted to this series because of Rival (book two), which made me fall for every character so bad that I just couldn’t help finding out how everything started for Tate and Jared.
Part YA and part NA, this book doesn’t just tell a story of a teenager being bullied, but also shows how one can become a bully without realising it. Not at first, at least. How much willpower does it take to fight back but not come down to your opponent’s level? Surely a lot, and that is exactly how much Tate had to endure for quite a while. Jared has always been a great guy and an important figure in Tate’s life, so his mean actions/words are like stabs right through her heart. What possibly could have happened to make him such a bully all of a sudden? And with her of all people! Nothing can justify his behaviour and yet, nothing behind it is the reason Tate and the reader would expect . . .
I devoured this book in a matter of hours and I’m really glad I also have Until You with me. I believe seeing everything through Jared’s POV—which I really missed here—will make for an interesting psychological journey . . . If you haven’t started it yet, do it now!
I resisted this book at first, because of the hype and the YA stuff, but it finally made its way to my to-read list 🙂 You make me want to devour it too !
Yay! I'm so glad you loved this, Silvia. As you know, I did as well. I still have yet to continue in the series but I will. I was really impressed with Douglas' writing. 🙂
The premise for the series and the characters themselves have me curious Silvia. I like that this is a crossover.
Hmmm I'm tempted to snag it. Great review.
Don't refrain yourself, Iza, the YA 'stuff' is just because they're in high school. Believe me, it's definitely for NA lovers and the more you read of this series, the more it grows on you!
I know you loved it and I'm so glad! Trust me, if you keep up with the read, you're going to fall for those characters even more. 😉
It sounds like a different and complete story. Mainly if you can find more than that. I didn't know about this one so thanks for the discovery!
Until You is what really completes the story for me, but this alone was a great read. If you ever give it a go, I'll be curious to know your thoughts, Melliane!
Bully sounds mesmerising, Silvia! I think I need to get to know Tate and how she managed to get the courage and the know-how to fight back!
I agree, I definitely think you really need/want to, Lexxie!
This one really interests me because I had a friend very similar to Jared in high school as well, although it did not escalate to quite the level this did. I am intrigued!
Then I think you could find this book particularly interesting, Alise. If you ever read it, I'll be curious to know your thoughts!
