FIRST THE FLAMES . . .
When Desfan Cassian, the future ruler of Mortise, skips his fifteenth birthday celebration so he can gamble in the slums, he knows his father won't be pleased. Then again, the serjan hasn’t been happy with him in years. And while Desfan anticipates a reprimand for his latest transgression, he doesn’t expect to be thrown out of the palace and exiled onto a patrol ship for the next year.
THEN FROM THE ASHES . . .
Furious to be trapped on the same sea that stole his family four years ago, Desfan is fully prepared to hate his new life. After all, the Phoenix is run by a strict captain, and Desfan's annoying new bodyguard, Karim, is his constant shadow. But when Desfan learns that a group of dangerous pirates may have been behind the deaths of his mother and sisters, he's suddenly committed to hunting down the truth—no matter the risk.
HE WILL RISE.
Fire & Ash is is a novella in the Fate of Eyrinthia YA fantasy romance series. While it is a prequel story, it is best enjoyed after reading Royal Spy.
Fire & Ash is a novella that gets under your skin . . . At least that is what happened to me. Sure, I could easily say it’s Desfan’s fault—or Karim’s!—but, most of all, it’s the author’s writing that keeps strengthening my love for this unique series.
Following years prior to the events taking place in the novels, readers don’t just have the opportunity to know Desfan better, but they actually get to experience his turbulent journey. A journey that could very well make for an emotional one for you, too . . . How can it not when it involves loss, grief, and the strength to fight—the good fight—back everything bad life throws your way? But let’s not forget about the good stuff, too, like the friendship between Desfan and Karim. If I already thought their bond was amazing, thanks to this read I now feel like it’s wonderfully precious. And, yes, I’m not ashamed to say I fell a bit for Karim—all hail the bonus scenes!
An impeccable novella in a series I love so fates-blasted much! In case you are still pondering over it, there is no such thing as ‘maybe’ or ‘one day’, the time to fall in love with Eyrhintia is NOW!
It’s always great when a prequel is as good as the main series. Not all authors are able to hold up like that!
I totally agree, Stephanie! To me, it feels like it’s impossible to be let down by this author. She has great writing skills and keeps making me attach to her characters so much, and the whole story is simply winning. Can’t wait for the third book in the series to be in my hands 😃
Fire & Ash sounds awesome, Glad you enjoyed it.
It truly is! It appears that every time a book in this series comes out, no matter the lenght, I turn into a kid on Christmas morning 😁
Wow- what a cover.
I love novellas. When you have a beloved series and then a novella comes along and adds to it… yes please.
Particular and fascinating, isn’t it?
Like you, Greg, I also love novellas. They can be tricky, though, so I particularly appreciate when an author delivers them in such an impeccable way!
Wow…fab review. I am going to recommend this to my daughter 🙂
That’s great to hear, Kimberly! The main character in here has also his own important role in the series, so I personally would recommend to start from the previous two books, this way she can get an even better feeling—and connection to the character/s—while reading this one 😉
I love it when a novella in a favorite series really delivers. I am so glad that you enjoyed this one!
Same! I always love when an author properly manages to deliver their stories in a shorter amount of pages without rushing anything, and Frost achieved that splendidly ❤️
What a great review you have of this novella here. It sounds so fascinating, and I can see how YA fans would especially love this one here.
I think even those not too into YA would love a story such as this one, it’s quite unique and charming under every aspect. Totally recommended to anyone wanting to experience something different and be part of a truly exciting journey!
I’ve read how you love this series on your previous posts Silvia, it’s really good to hear that you also enjoyed this novella. Now, you got me really curious, hehehe
My love for this series is written everywhere, isn’t it? 😉 I’m glad I piqued your interest, Vanessa, and I sure hope you’ll give it a go at some point!
This novella sounds like it packs a punch — and makes teh series so much better!
It’s just the perfect addition to a series that is already a winning one!
