The night is not safe for mortals.
Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows–her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield–and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family’s dark past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness–and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who craves a taste of her.
He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human–even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the demon nightmare together . . .
Because once the first drop of crimson falls, they will both be lost.
This was the first time I’ve read something by Jeaniene Frost (finally!) and I wasn’t disappointed at all. I found the writing fluid and captivating, so much that it was practically impossible for me not to enjoy this book.
The plot is intriguing and everything is fast-paced. I may not have been too involved in the relationship between the main characters at first, but then something clicked and suddenly I was all in. Perhaps I didn’t completely like Denise, but Spade? Well, there is practically nothing to dislike about him. His personality and his seduction gave me a great time and, together with Bones and Ian, a few good laughs. Speaking of, Bones is definitely the main reason why I want to catch up with the Night Huntress series—I get you now, girls—and Ian is the I-always-get-your-attention-babe kind of character that fascinates me, so I’d really like to read more about him as well.
With very interesting vampires and an evil, angry demon, First Drop of Crimson is a real page turner! It was my first Jeaniene Frost book and it won’t definitely be my last.
The blurb is a bit cryptic, but that makes things way more interesting!
I really liked your review, Silvia! I love the fact that there are fascinating characters, so I'll surely keep this one in mind. 🙂
WooHoo Silvia! I'm so happy your first Jeaniene Frost made you happy 🙂 I love all of her adult books, and I really enjoyed her soon-to-be released YA/NA story, too.
Happy reading.
Oh, I really enjoyed this one too! My favorite series is still Cat and Bones, but I always adored Spade. Glad you enjoyed, Silvia!
I'm glad you enjoyed it ! I didn't read this one but love her Night huntress series 🙂
Woot! I enjoyed this one as well 🙂
Wahoo! Woot! Woot!
I think this is a series you could really appreciate, Franny. I would suggest you to keep this in mind when your very busy schedule clears a bit 😉
It really worked well for me and I'm extremely happy about it! I'll have to look at that next release you talk about, I like her writing style and I'd be curious to try new genres as well.
I added Night Huntress series on my TBR list 😉
Glad to hear that 🙂
I get you're another Jeaniene Frost fan then, Kimberly? 😉
Oh yes Spade was yummy! And your first Frost?!! Oh my word. She's fab. Hope you enjoy the Night Huntress ones!
Yep, it has been my first and definitely not the last! I can't wait to start the Night Huntress series, but I'm afraid it will have to wait because I have a killing schedule at the moment… But I will read the series for sure, I'm too intrigued not to!
You loved Spike ? You'll love Bones 😉
I haven't read the spin off series but I like the original one and I actually have the book so I'm sure I'll read it too.
I thought Denise's story was really intriguing. I love this series and hate seeing it come to an end. We are still getting some stories set in the world with at least one more Vlad book. There has been some talk of Ian and possibly others, eventually. I have my fingers crossed.
You did right 😀 !
Thanks for the reminder, I absolutely LOVED the Night Huntress series and the Night Prince one as well – but I didn't get the chance to read this one yet. Glad to hear it was as exciting as the other series! Great review.
I'll be definitely read the original series, after this book I'm too intrigued not to!
In a way, I'm lucky to have waited so I can read the series altogether. Still, I'm afraid I need to clear my reading schedule just a tiny bit first… Good thing to know about Ian, thanks for the heads up, Melanie! 🙂
My pleasure and you guys are really making it hard for me to resist the pull to go back and read Night Huntress series sooner rather than later…
Just so you know, Frost is not guaranteeing other books, but they have been talked about. I don't want to get your hopes up too much. *fingers crossed*
Yeah, I heard that a while ago from a friend, so I'm prepared. Still, one can always hope, right? *fingers crossed* Thanks again, Melanie!
