Life of a Blogger is a weekly feature hosted by Jessi @ Novel Heartbeat.
Let’s talk about non-bookish topics, so we get to know each other on a more personal level.
This week’s topic: LANGUAGES
Well, considering I’m ITALIAN, it’s pretty easy to guess which language I speak waaaay too fluently, huh? ๐ Besides that, I clearly know ENGLISH, which it has become my second language since I moved to UK.
Other than those two primary languages, let’s see . . . I studied GERMAN for three years in junior high school and I still remember some of the basics, but that is not enough for me to engage in a conversation or following one properly. I also took a couple of SPANISH classes at Uni, but I didn’t keep up with it afterwards. I may not speak it, but I do understand it and I think it’s mostly because it is similar to my mother tongue.
Speaking of studies, I come from a classical high school so, among those languages I know, I can add LATIN and GREEK, which I can still manage to make some translations from.
I would love to know some Italian, but I don't think I could pronounce half of the German words ๐
LOL you're even better than me. I would say English is ok but I'm not fluent at speaking. I don't speak that much but I'm ok. I'm perfect at French (wonder why lol). I used to love spanish and well I'm near Spain so it helps too. I studied it during many years, like latin.
Verra nice. I have Spanish (took 7 years in school up to AP Lit then passed my AP exam and promptly refused to ever speak it again lol) and then German a year in high school and a couple in college. I can read both better than speak them at this point–It's been 14ish years.
You should have told me, I could have helped you, Chanzie! Anyway, if you ever want to learn some phrases just give me a shout! ๐
Hehe, don't I know that! ๐
Always happy to help with Italian, Michelle! ๐
Well, I suppose it's because you tend to write it for the most part. Living in UK, I have to speak English every time I go outside, so I'd say it's basically a matter of practice. ๐
Would you believe I've always considered French too complicated? After all those languages I mentioned it sounds 'silly', huh? And yet, French kinda scares me… Kudos for you!!
Yeah, I can relate. 14ish years are a lot…I should have kept practising, argh!
I think this was just before I started blogging ๐ I'll keep it in mind for next time!!!
See? Blogging really helps with the right connections! LOL Please, do! ๐
That's wonderful you have knowledge of or can speak so many languages, Silvia. I took Spanish in school beginning in first grade and minored in it in college. But I'm nowhere near fluent since you tend to lose it if you don't use it. ๐ My kids are studying Spanish though so I get to practice with them.
Practicing is always good! ๐
You know very well I don't like German.
I studied Latin for a couple of years at that language school, but it just wasn't for me. ๐
Wowweee.. I tried to learn some phrases in Italian when I entered a competition to win a trip to Italy to watch the Italian Grand Prix – sadly I did not win but it was fun. I speak English as my first language and Afrikaans as a second ๐
Another silly thing I did in high school was switch my cellphone language to Italian – so that no one could snoop on my phone *ha ha* loved it!
