Classical musician Maddie Taylor secretly dreams of a louder life, but geeky girls like her don't get to be rock stars. That is, until tattooed singer Jared Cross catches her playing guitar and invites her to join his band on The Sound, a reality TV show competition.
Once on the show, Maddie discovers there's more to Jared than his flirty smile and bad boy reputation. With each performance their attraction becomes impossible to ignore, but when the show pressures them to stay single, they're forced to keep their relationship secret.
As the competition heats up, Jared will do whatever it takes for his band to win, and Maddie must decide if following her dream is worth losing her heart.

After reading the prequel, I was left with a big desire to see how things would develop with the band. Alright, what I needed the most perhaps was to find out everything possible about Jared, but this book offered much more than that, and now Villain Complex has officially a new fan!

I admit I’ve never been into reality TV shows much and I rarely watch them, but I had a blast reading about the one in here. Briggs gave such a vivid description of the ‘game’ and its dynamics that I couldn’t help but being invested in the story. I cheered, cried and exulted with the main characters at every contest, and I was awestruck by their passion, which also played its explosive part in Jared and Maddie’s relationship. I really loved their chemistry and how it developed into something deeper, but the reality certainly put some obstacles to their happiness . . . Of course, mistakes and misunderstandings just spiced up the read even more and the result was an unputdownable book!

With its geeky references (a favourite of mine!), lots of great music to accompany the journey and believable, great characters, More Than Music is a pleasure to read. Well done, Elizabeth Briggs!

  1. I'm not a big fan of reality tv too, so I'm glad you mentioned it as it might have prevented me from reading the book. I'm adding this to my list, you convinced me – and hey, how could you resist a rock star named Jared ๐Ÿ˜‰

  2. You're tempting me with books + music again! I'm not really a fan of the reality TV aspect but since you had a good time with the book anyway I'll give it a go.

yay for geeky references, I always love them as well! It's great that this one is up to the prequel, it's not always the case. I'm curious now! great review!

  4. LOL, true! ๐Ÿ˜‰ I was genuinely impressed by how much a reality TV show competition could grab my attention in a book when I don't care for those on the actual TV. I believe this simply proves the author did a very good job with her story and writing.

  5. Music and geeky references! *sighs* I love that as well, Silvia. And while I don't really watch reality TV, I have read a few books where I enjoyed that aspect of the story as well ๐Ÿ™‚

Hmm, I think I may have snagged the prequel after reading your review of it. And now you're putting another book on the list that I must purchase?? You know you've put me onto a rock kick lately. And I certainly like the sound of this one. I'm not into reality tv either but the music, and passion, and well…geeky references have my curiosity piqued! Great review, Silvia!

  7. Well, I've been into these kind of reads a lot for the past few months and I thought it was rude not to put other readers onto such a rock kick! ๐Ÿ˜‰ Hope you enjoy both the prequel and the novel, Brandee!
