Lady Philippa Marbury is odd. The bespectacled, brilliant fifth daughter of the Marquess of Needham and Dolby cares more for books than balls, flora than fashion and science than the season. Nearly engaged to Lord Castleton, Pippa wants to explore the scandalous parts of London she's never seen before marriage. And she knows just who to ask: the tall, charming, quick-witted bookkeeper of The Fallen Angel, London's most notorious and coveted gaming hell, known only as Cross. Like any good scientist, Pippa's done her research and Cross's reputation makes him perfect for her scheme. She wants science without emotionโ€”the experience of ruination without the repercussions of ruination. And who better to provide her with the experience than this legendary man? But when this odd, unexpected female propositions Cross, it's more than tempting . . . and it will take everything he has to resist following his instinctsโ€”and giving the lady precisely what she wants.

Strong, intelligent and fierce, Lady Philippa doesn’t take a no for an answer very well. Answers are what she seeks the most and anything or anyone can stop her from getting those. Well, Cross’ stubbornness reveals to be quite the challenge, but our heroine seems to emanate a certain charm she doesn’t know to possess, and that could be what plays to her advantage . . . She’s not perfect, she wears spectacles and she’s not the classic outstanding beauty of the ton. People find her odd, I personally find her refreshing and a geeky heroine to love! Of course, so does Cross. Those two have some amazing talks together that definitely increment the tension building, which is frustrating but oh, terribly good!

Teasing and tempting the entire time, this instalment was a pleasure to read and, as usual, I ended up being enthralled not just by the main couple but also by the others around them. I’m eager to see how things work out for each and everyone of those amazing scoundrels, so . . . Next!
