Belle Walker lives in a strict society where women are treated as property, sold to the highest bidder soon after their eighteenth birthday. But the auction isn’t the only danger. Though she’s never seen them, she knows monsters live outside the city. These creatures have allowed the humans a small area to inhabit with the promise to leave them in peace as long as they never cross the boundary. On the day Belle is sold, one of the monsters breaks that promise and enters the city, intent on having her as his own.
I totally loved this novella and the sci-fi trait was a real, great revelation! Kitty Thomas built an intriguing futuristic society on a different planet, where humans and monsters inhabit different areas and have very different cultures. Surprise, surprise, the monsters’ one is way far better. It’s scary to find yourself more in sync with them but, believe me, their traditions and reasoning completely make sense and these creatures are really unique and fascinating. I loved when Master put his wings around Annabelle, his mate, a really beautiful image that can be read like protective, possessive or why not, both of them. After all, aren’t these two main characteristics of a Master?
I devoured The Auction in a couple of hours and yes, I was about to start re-reading it again because of OMG-Monster-Masters . . . A girl, a cave, two brothers, Master—the sadistic one—and Sir, then a series of kinky-hot things that put you in that psychological twist that Kitty Thomas knows how to use so well every single time, and if you really explore it and manage to embrace it, then you’re done. There is no escape, monsters or not—but always blushing a lot—Kitty’s books are a superb pleasure to read.
I am definitely going to have to check this one out. It only took one book from Kitty to become an instant fan, and now I feel like I have to read *everything* she has!
I'm with you there! I felt exactly the same and I'm always jumping to read her next release. Can't wait for the next one now!
And S, fabulous review! Her psychological twists to her stories are amazing and I love when she's applying it to these different societies and worlds!
Ooh, this does sound intriguing, and a little disturbing.
Great review Silvia! I've got this sitting in my Kindle app, really looking forward to getting the chance to read it!
