The Dex-Files is a compilation novel that accompanies the Experiment in Terror series and is not to be read as a stand-alone. In The Dex-Files we find a variety of scenes and chapters from the enigmatic Dex Foray’s point of view from books 1-6 in the series. Some of these scenes have been previously published albeit from Perry’s point of view while other scenes are completely new.
In this novella we get to re-read some of the scenes that played a major role in the previous five instalments, this time from Dex’s pov. We even get a new scene leading to the next book and a few new ones right from his past, and oh-boy if those make clarity over Dex being so messed up . . . I would strongly suggest you to pick every previous instalment—including Pippa’s novella—before reading The Dex-Files, or the events not only won’t make much sense to you, but I’m afraid they won’t have the desired effect and you could also get spoiled.
Getting inside Dex’s head is quite an experience, one I would gladly repeat over and over again! Dex has always been a dark, complex character and for that, even more captivating. However, despite his personality showing us a different side—one I’m crazy about—here you can also see how terribly lovable he is. I wouldn’t have thought possible to love him more, but here I am, completely and irrevocably addicted to Declan Foray!
I loved this novella so much! I loved seeing inside Dex's head and getting to know his side of the story. I agree with you, that this book shouldn't be read before any of the previous books. For me, it would completely ruin the mystery around his character which makes figuring him out so much more fun. I'm so glad you loved the book! Have you read Into the Hollow yet? It's gooood! 😀 LOL, you are making me want to re-read the entire series!
I can't tell you how happy I am to hear from another EIT fan, Alma! 😀 I'm glad you agree with me and yes, I already read Into the Hollow. As a matter of fact, my review is coming up next week, so I hope you'll stop by to see if our thoughts on this amazing series keep matching! 😉 Also, don't doubt for a second that I wouldn't re-read the entire series right with you, I'm already mourning for the imminent end…*sob-sob*
Cover love!!! It's so pretty, it's practically screaming at me to get it. Guess I must read the other books first before I can ever reach this one. Soon my pretty, soon. 😉
Eek!! I have her books on my TBR 🙂 Glad to see you enjoyed this one
Oh it's wonderful to have a great novella like that. I'm not sure if I know about the series but I'll investigate! thanks!
Hehe, it's quite unique, isn't it? And yes, you definitely need to read the other books in the series first, Melissa. Fingers crossed you can get to them soon!!
I enjoyed loved each and every instalment!
It's wonderful to have a series like this! That 'investigate' is quite appropriate, Melliane 😉
I have really got to get back to her books. I still have one left in the Artists triology. Love those! Glad she rocked this one too 🙂
Oh, I think I'm one of the last people on Earth who haven't read this series. 🙁 But I really look forward to meeting Dex. 😉
I read this, too! Ohmygosh, Dex is so odd and I love that, but this book made me love it even more. Great review!
She rocked every instalment of the series, Anna!
I really can't wait for you to meet him, Brandee!!
Dex is pure LOVE! Certainly one of my fave book boyfriends 😉
