For decades the lands of the Ironship Syndicate have been defended by the Blood-blessed—men and women able to channel the powers contained in the potent blood of wild drakes. Elite spies and assassins, their loyalty has established the Syndicate's position as the greatest power in the known world.
Yet now a crisis looms. The drake bloodlines are weakening, and war with the Corvantine Empire seems inevitable. The Syndicate's only hope of survival lies with the myth of a legendary drake, whose powerful blood might just turn the tide of the war—if it even exists.
The task of hunting down this fabled creature falls to Claydon Torcreek, a petty thief and unregistered Blood-blessed. He's handled many valuable things in his time (most of them illegal) but nothing as priceless as his nation's future.

Previous to this book, I was new to Anthony Ryan’s writing and his fascinating mind and now, after having read this first instalment in The Draconis Memoria series, I don’t just want to read more, I can also say the ‘a master storyteller’ praise on the cover is totally deserved.

I have a huge passion for dragons and anything related to them so, when I started reading about those incredible wild drakes and people who could channel great powers through their blood, I found myself completely compelled. The world building is simply amazing, everything is explained with care and, even though I’m not the biggest fan of very long descriptions, here they were absolutely a pleasure to read because the writing is just that good. Further proof of this is that there are three POVs and not a single one of them is less engaging than the other. Every chapter basically ends with a cliffhanger that makes you eagerly turn the page and yet, if you find you have to wait for answers because a different POV is on, you can’t help but still being thrilled because everything is a fantastic discovery.

Intriguing plot, captivating characters, brilliant pace and writing. I’m not just suggesting you to read this book, I’m telling you not to waste time and go live a great adventure now!
