It's almost Christmas. With the global holiday days away, the people of the world should be turning their attention toward celebrating peace and goodwill, but tension between humans, vampires, and vaempires is at an all-time high. Desperate for solutions, King Brant schedules a secret summit deep in North America's Northern Forest. Along with Queen Anne, Princess Cassandra, Daniel's family, and the human President and First Lady, the vampire leader seeks to reaffirm the ties between humans and vampires, while brainstorming ways to respond to the growing hostility among vaempires. Meanwhile, Daniel and Cassie's relationship is at an all-time low. The princess is still reeling from her breakup with Vielyn, and Daniel doesn't know what he should or shouldn't do to help. Little does he know that the summit will be flooded with surprises-guests, allegations, accusations, proposals, and even Christmas Eve revelations-but not all of the surprises will be pleasant."
This is a prelude for Vaempires: Revolution, but it’s supposed to be read after the first book. At first, I found that a little bit strange, but after doing as the author suggested, I totally saw the point of it. Who would watch Star Wars Episode I, II and III before having seen Episode IV, V and VI? I know the story would make perfectly sense if you’d watch it in that order, still. Let’s face it, the greatest beauty of Star Wars is cheering Darth Vader—pfft, tell someone else you didn’t do that, too—and then find out everything about his background and his forbidden love. That’s how it works, first you grow fond of a character and then you want to know every secret. That’s exactly what happens in Vaempires, The Evolutionary War series. You read Vaempires: Revolution, you’re amazed by the action in it and totally captivated by story and characters, then it comes Vaempires: White Christmas, you find out how all the fuss started and you love it, because at this point you’re able to see everything with the eyes of a character you previously learned to love and admire. The bound is already there, Daniel’s concerns are yours, and you feel his struggling for Cassandra and love the way it all comes to life.
Vaempires: White Christmas is a really beautiful prelude and, with his very strong writing skills, Thomas Winship managed to make me love his story with such an amazing intensity that I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this book to everyone.
Thank you so much, Silvia. It's like Christmas already!
