John Matthew has come a long way since he was found living among humans, his vampire nature unknown to himself and to those around him, and taken in by the Brotherhood. No one could have guessed his true history—or his true identity. Indeed, the fallen Brother Darius has returned, but with a different face and a very different destiny.
Xhex, a symphath assassin, has long steeled herself against the attraction between her and John. Having already lost one lover to madness, she will not allow a male of worth to fall prey to the darkness of her twisted life. When fate intervenes, however, the two discover that love, like destiny, is inevitable between soul mates.

That John Matthew was a man of worth has always been clear, even before his transition kicked in, but what I still wasn’t realising was how this would have affected my crush on him. Crush? Let’s call it love, shall we? The way he fights for his female, the love he has for her and the ways he has to show it . . . John Matthew, I love you! And, as Tohr likes to point out every now and then, John and Xhex make sense. Totally sense!

And now let me point out something of my own: Blay and Qhuinn are killing me! I had the urge to slap Qhuinn in the face and constantly yell “come on!” and I was in a very desperate need to go to Blay, hug him hard and never let go of him. My heart broke in hundreds pieces and my vision was blurry for . . . well, basically from beginning to end. Heartbreaking, those two are absolutely heartbreaking and I can’t even imagine how I’m going to be when the time to read their book comes . . .

One of the main characteristics of this amazing series is the connection between different characters and plots. They’re never predictable and, especially in this case, they’re extremely exciting and OMG how beautifully shocking! I really LOVE it! It’s definitely what makes me pick the next book up without thinking about it twice.
