Beatrice Reece, Lady Fenwick, has retired from polite society. Everyone knows her late husband treated her abominably, and she simply cannot bear the whispers of the ton. But it's the night of London's premier masquerade ball—and Beatrice's one chance to revel in anonymity. She hopes no one will recognize her beneath her mask, not even the sinfully sexy stranger across the room who holds her captive in his gaze.
Andrew Sinclair would know beautiful Beatrice anywhere from the gentle sway of her hips, the richness of her hair and the lushness of her body. When he asks her to dance, the attraction is instant and all-consuming. The only woman he's ever truly wanted is finally in his arms. But when the clock strikes twelve, will this one reckless night fade into the morning light?

I think that imagining Lady Esme writing these novellas is why they have such a special emotional impact on me. And for that, I am truly grateful because I always end up having a big satisfaction every time I read one of those stories, just like it happened with One Night with an Earl.

This was a lovely novella in which the interaction between the hero and the heroine was touching, sensual and sweet altogether. In just a matter of pages we are drawn into a masquerade where the main purpose—having fun and don’t be shy but enjoy the company of others—takes the shape of something deeper: love. And being this love a past one to never been declared, doesn’t this just make the story even better? Of course, this from a reader’s perspective, the characters may have appreciated a different turn of events . . .

Another great novella in the House of Trent series to devour. Peachy, just like Lady Esme and Jennifer Haymore’s writing!

This sounds fantastic, Silvia. And I like the idea of the book being written as a sort of journal?? I'll have to check out this series.

  2. Here's the thing: the novellas in the series are scandalous stories secretly written by Lady Esme—one of the amazing characters in the House of Trent series—but presented from her very dear friend Jennifer Haymore to avoid any scandal, hence our Lady to be ruined… I think it's a brilliant idea and there is also a letter to the reader with the whole explanation in every novella, which is quite great, let me tell you! Hope you'll check it out, Brandee, it's an amazing historical romance series and the author has a lovely writing style!
