Lukas Hawkins, the second son of the troubled House of Trent, is on a mission: find his missing mother and her alleged kidnapper, a brute named Roger Morton. If bringing the villain to justice means breaking a few laws, then so be it. But when he encounters a mysterious stranger with the face of an angel and a body made for sin, Luke suddenly finds his task—and his heart—in peril.
Emma Curtis knows of Lord Lukas's rakish reputation and hopes to use it to her advantage. While most men of honour would never travel alone with an unmarried woman, Luke is quite willing to take Emma on the road . . . and into his bed.
As their journey carries them to unexpected places, Luke and Emma indulge their every passion and share their most private fantasies. But just when their deepest desires are finally within reach, a secret is revealed that threatens to end their love forever . . .
I was really looking forward to reading this second instalment in the House of Trent series, especially because of the brother it focuses on, and I’m pleased to say that it didn’t disappoint me at all. On the contrary, it surprised me with an even better Lukas Hawkins—and extremely hot!—than the one I previously pictured in my head.
The reasons why Lord Lukas doesn’t let anyone in, run deep and painfully in his past. A past he has always kept all for himself to protect his family, but by doing so he inevitably lost their trust. Despite his pushing everyone away, it’s clear that what he truly craves is for someone to understand him. But he’s so afraid and lost that he can’t believe there is a single soul who could ever possibly accept him. That, of course, before meeting Emma, who shows a hidden side—unknown to herself as well—for Lukas practically impossible to resist to . . . And then everything becomes enticing beyond expectations!
A delightfully written novel with a dominant male in it who knows how to make your toes curl with just a whisper . . . Isn’t that so, Mrs. Curtis?
hmm this sounds like a great historical romance read 🙂 I think its just awesome when a book surprises you!

Yum, this sounds good and I love that it exceeded your expectations. I could read this type of novel in one sitting..i just get lost in them
I surely was expecting a great hero, but honestly wasn't expecting such an alpha male with lots of qualities to swoon over… Definitely a good surprise! 😉
Lukas Hawkins definitely exceeded my expectations! As for Jennifer Haymore, I just LOVE her writing style and so far I have always fell for every instalment (including the short stories) of this series. Happy to keep falling 😉
I haven't started this series yet, but it's on my TBR, and wow, you really made me curious with your review. Dominant males and a historical setting *yum*
I like that A LOT, too!! Hope you get to read this series soon, it's very good!
Huh, I even have the ARC for this one… no excuse now!
Then you're ready to go! 😉 If you already have the first instalment, even better. There's a mystery that starts from book one, so it would be wise to read every book in order (although you will enjoy Lord Lukas' company no matter what).
